Scooters Market Fastest Growing In Kerala

Kerala is the fastest growing state in terms of scooter as a mode of transport in rural and urban centres, said a study conducted by industry body Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

While releasing the study report ‘Automobile Industry in India: Saturated & Potential States’ on Friday, D S Rawat, national secretary general of Assocham, said the scooter market in Kerala has clocked a massive growth of 198% and 101% respectively between 2001-11, ahead of the national growth rate of 131%.

Out of major 20 states, a total of 15 states were ahead of the national growth rate in rural markets for scooter. While Kerala had the highest growth rate among top five states, Bihar (197%), Rajasthan (164%), Tamil Nadu (159%) and Uttarakhand (157%) came in at successive positions.
