Personnel from the Coast Guard, divers from the Navy and Coastal Police personnel are engaged in the search operations for two fishermen from South Paravoor who drowned in the Vembanad Lake in the early hours of Sunday.

The fishermen, missing since a boat capsize close to the Venduruthy bridge, have been identified as Madhavan, 74, of Kaithavalappu house and Padmanabhan, 60, of Puthuvalnikarthil house.

According to the police, eight people from South Paravoor, had set out on a fishing expedition in two country boats on Saturday night. They were engaged in fixing the nets to the stakes in the lake when a heavy wave of water dashed the boats against the stakes.

Six fishermen saved themselves by holding on to the stakes while two of their companions were lost in the heavy undercurrents.
