Coimbatore
A special police force from Coimbatore will go to Kerala on Thursday, to conduct an investigation with the suspected hawala gang. According to police sources, several natives of Malappuram and Thrissur living in the Gulf countries send money through agents in Mumbai using illegal methods. This is to avoid taxes.
“The special team will work with the Malappuram police to investigate this matter further,” said E S Uma, SP, Coimbatore district. Hawala gang receives the money and passes it on to family members of the source, keeping a commission for themselves. Since many gangs are involved in this illegal business, there is much rivalry among them.
