Strike By Container Lorry Operators in Kochi
3 August 2013
Cochin
After an interval of five months, the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam is under threat of a strike by container lorry operators.
The coordination committee of trade unions is planning a strike in protest against delay in introduction of unified rates for hiring and operating container lorries.
“Since the ICTT started functioning in 2011, there has been an unprecedented rise in the number of container carrier trucks, which resulted in unwanted competition between owners,” said coordination committee convener Charles George.
