Children studying in several Mangalore schools were joined by their Kerala counterparts for a silent protest march to the deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday. The students from Kerala demanded that the government act tough against the rapists and expressed solidarity with the girl and her parents.
Dilsha, a Class VII student of Kerala Samajam English Medium School, said the government needs to provide a safe environment for girls. “First of all, they should immediately arrest the accused and take stringent action against them,” she said. Another student Neethu, another student of the same school, said felt girls’ safety should be of priority for the government and police.
The protest was organized by Kerala Samajam, Mangalore. Samajam president TK Rajan said the entire society must deplore the heinous and brutal crime. “Immediate steps need to be taken to bring the culprits to book. They deserve no sympathy,” he said at a protest meet.
