Tanur Fishing Harbour Work to start soon

Inaugurating the work, Mr. Chandy said the restoration of the Connolly Canal between Koottayi and Ottumpuram would be taken up soon if the situation was conducive. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy launched work on the much-awaited fishing harbour at Tanur here in a festive ambience on Sunday afternoon.
The Chief Minister was heralded to the function in an open vehicle by a mammoth crowd. Abdurahman Randathani, Tanur MLA, who welcomed the gathering, said the crowd was the largest the district witnessed for an inaugural function.
Mr. Randathani said the harbour would be a dream come true for the people living along the coast of Malappuram district, especially between Koottayi and Kadalundi. He said the harbour, projected to be completed by 2017, was expected to fetch 16,420 tonnes of fish a year.
The harbour would have two breakwaters of 1,050-m and 850-m length. It would have a 120-m long wharf, 900 sq m auction house, and 9,300-sq m roads.
