District Medical Officer Haseena Mohammed has said there was no negligence on the part of the medical team at Kothamangalam taluk hospital, where a three-year-old tribal boy, Sunoj, died on Monday.
Sunoj was brought to the hospital on Monday at 6.10 p.m. He was found to be suffering from fever and scabies. The boy’s blood was collected for detailed tests and he was admitted by 6.20 p.m. He was then given a test dose of an antibiotic. However, when the nurse went to administer the full dose at 6.45 p.m. the patient was found missing, said Dr. Haseena, who has sent a report to the Director, Health Services.
It is learnt that the boy’s father, Shaji of Kuttampuzha, took him to a nearby lodge without informing the hospital authorities. The boy was reportedly shifted as he was sharing a bed with another patient.
When the boy regained consciousness at night he was taken to a private hospital where he was declared dead. Dr. Haseena said an inquiry revealed that Sunoj was taken to an ayurveda practitioner who advised his father to admit him to an emergency care hospital.
