Rs 190 Crore For Promotion of Tourism by Kerala

Kerala Tourism plans to invest Rs 190 crore this fiscal, including Rs 100 crore on infrastructure development and campaigning to boost tourism sector, which it expects would yield revenues to the tune of Rs 23,000 crore.

Kerala witnessed 7.94 lakh foreign tourists in 2012, as compared to 7.33 lakh in 2011. Kerala Tourism’s revenue increased by 8 per cent from Rs 19,037 crore in 2011 to Rs 21,125 crore in 2012, which includes forex earnings of Rs 4,548 crore.

As part of its campaign to promote tourism, a new campaign to promote the backwater tourism, introducing an amphibious sea plane at two places through private operators in backwaters, and a new branding campaign “Your Moment is Waiting”, S Harikishore, Director, told reporters here on Tuesday.

The six-seater sea plane to be introduced shortly would charge Rs 5,000 per passenger for a 30-minute journey into the backwater for a unique experience.
