KSEB to go with Solar Power Project

In a meeting of the KSEB officials it had decided that it go-head to plan a roof-top solar/hybrid power project that can be implemented in government buildings in the state. The May 6 meeting has approved a project christened ‘Grid-connected solar/hybrid solar plants on public buildings-2013’ for the entire state aimed at generating 1.5 MW of solar or hybrid solar power, making use of space available atop buildings owned by the government or quasi-government agencies.
The Kerala State Electricity Board proposal is that it should be implemented on Build Operate Transfer (BOT) basis using contractors selected via competitive bids.The full board meeting is learnt to have taken a decision to recommend to the State Government to issue orders in this regard.
The Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) has been entrusted with the implementation of the ‘Solar Homes’ project where 1 kW units are to be set up in 10,000 households. Various government agencies are also in the process of switching over to solar power.
