Liver Transplantation Unit in Kerala Soon

Kerala State will soon be having its first cadaver liver transplantation unit in the public sector at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital, the Health Minister, V. S. Sivakumar, said.In the second phase, a multi-organ transplantation institute will be launched at MCH, he said. Mr. Sivakumar was chairing the high-level meeting convened here on Wednesday to discuss the progress of the on-going projects at MCH .
The foundation stone for the Rs. 28 cr multidisciplinary research laboratory, with a modern animal house, will be laid in the first week of August. The Rs. 26-cr project, which includes a geriatric complex, multidisciplinary intensive care unit, poly trauma unit and modern mortuary, is also in the initial phase.
The initial steps for the Rs. 80 cr. Institute of Maternal and Child Health, as part of SAT hospital, is also being initiated. Infrastructural work to the tune of Rs. 20 cr will be taken up as part of this project, which will be implemented in partnership with NRHM.
