Wayanad beat defending champions Ernakulam in straight sets 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 in the final of the 42nd Kerala State Senior Volleyball Championship at Sulthan Bathery floodlit stadium on Sunday. In the women’s event, Thiruvananthapuram retained their title beating Kozhikode in a four-set match 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17.
Wayand captain and setter Manu V was thrilled after the surprise win. “I feel great to lead such a side. We are winning the state championship for the first time and it’s a nice feeling,” said Manu.Thiruvananthapuram’s coach Prajisha MK was very excited after their 11th title in the past 12 years. “We came here to win and we did it again. Jomol and Tiji were exceptional throughout the event and it’s a big moment for us,” said Prajisha.
