M.M. Mani, former Idukki district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and P.T. Thomas, MP, of trying to politically eliminate him.
Mr. Mani was speaking at Moolamattom, where he was given a reception by the party area committee after the High Court eased his bail condition granting him entry into the district. He was arrested following his revelation, at a public meeting at Manakkad on May 25, 2012, that his party had systematically eliminated its opponents. He was given conditional bail by the court with restrictions on entering the district. He has been living in his ancestral house at Kidangoor in Kottayam district for over seven months now.
Mr. Mani said the trio had scripted the story leading to his arrest. They were worthless leaders who dreamt of crushing the CPI(M) by fostering false cases, he said. He said the involvement of Mr. Chandy and Mr. Radhakrishnan in the solar scam had brought shame to the Congress, which was seeing its last rule in the State. Mr. Chandy had brought shame to the chair of the Chief Minister which was once occupied by leaders such as EMS, C. Achutha Menon and K. Karunakaran, he said.
Questioning the integrity of some Ministers, Mr. Mani asked how a TV actor like Shalu Menon, accused in the solar scam case, had become a film censor board member when great cine actors had been denied the position.
Mr. Mani, who had been accusing the media of distorting his speech at Manakkad, praised them for highlighting the solar scam at his speeches at various places in Thodupuzha on Wednesday.
He will be given reception at various places in the district by the respective area committees till August 24.
