Thiruvananthapuram
For the saftey of woman travelers Kerala Government have launched SHE Taxi in the state which will be operated 24 hours a day and will be drived and owned by Female Driver only.
The white and pink taxis driven by women will be seen moving around Thiruvananthapuram soon. Owned and run by women the taxis will provide safe travel options at a time when violence against women is on the rise.
“It is a taxi service run by women for women, you cannot think of anything more which is safer than this. I hope that more people come forward to take up this service,” said the goodwill ambassador of the project, actor Manju Warrier.
Single women travelling late at night no longer have to worry as these taxis are available at all hours and if any problem crops up the driver can press a panic button and seek police help. The taxis are monitored through a GPS system and their movement can be tracked by the passenger’s guardians or friends. So far five women have come forward to run the service initiated by Gender Park under the Department of Social Justice.
Taking a ride in the security enabled ‘She Taxi’ along with a confident woman driver gives one the trust to board one of these even late at night. The introduction of such a service has given relief to many but the department of Social Justice should keep its word of increasing the number of taxis to 100 and extending it to other cities.
