DMRC to not be the Part of Kerala Metro Project

Delhi Government has made it clear that DMRC officials are tied up with the implementation of phases III and IV of the project in Delhi, besides setting right the difficulties being faced in the Airport Express Line in the Capital. Under these circumstances, it would be difficult to spare DMRC for the Kochi Metro project, the Kerala delegation was told.The Delhi Government has declined to let the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) execute the Kochi Metro Rail project. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday made it clear to a high level delegation comprising two Union Ministers — KV Thomas and Vayalar Ravi — and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy that the Delhi Metro was free to act as a consultant but could not execute the entire project.

The Delhi Chief Minister is reported to have pointed out that that the Delhi Metro had ‘limitations’ in taking up the State’s prestigious infrastructure project. According to sources, Dikshit has given sufficient hints that the Delhi Metro, which has taken up works spreading to around 400-kilometre for the third and fourth stages of the Delhi Metro project, cannot take up additional work all that easily. The Delhi Government also pointed out that Delhi Metro has been assigned the task of the monorail project in the national Capital and all projects of Delhi Metro will be delayed if it is also roped in to the execution of Kochi Metro Rail.

Chandy had earlier appealed to Dikshit to allow the Delhi Metro to take up the work on Kochi Metro and monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode in view of the decision that the Delhi Metro needed permission of its Director Board to take up projects outside Delhi. In his letter, Chandy stated that Kochi Metro project had the resources to carry out the work and no human resources would have to be diverted from Delhi Metro for the work.
