Delhi thief Devinder Singh, infamous as Bunty chor, has allegedly struck again — this time in Kerala, the police said on Tuesday. They said that Bunty entered the house of an NRI here early on Monday and stole a Mitsubishi vehicle worth Rs 28 lakh.
The manager of a hotel, where Bunty stayed for a few days before the theft, has identified him from the images caught by the surveillance camera. He had checked into the hotel as Devinder Singh and had submitted his driving licence bearing his photograph. Braving the security system including remote-controlled gate, alarms and surveillance cameras, he entered the house after removing the bullet-proof glass in front of the house.
Known as Delhi’s super thief, Bunty, a private detective by profession, was arrested in Bhopal in January last year in connection with a carjacking in Haryana. Bunty, who has a weakness for costly cars, was arrested in Delhi in 2007 for several cases of thefts. After his release in 2008, he had reportedly vowed to lead a normal life. The 2008 Hindi movie Oye Lucky Lucky Oye was inspired by his life.
