Cancer campaign in Kerala To Start from 4 February

A cancer campaign is soon be launched in Kerala State which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Sivakumar said that the ‘Kerala Campaign Against Cancer’ would focus on facilities at district-level hospitals, ensuring adequate facilities including appointment of doctors and generating awareness among the public.
Finance Minister K M Mani had earmarked Rs 10 crore in the budget for cancer treatment and in the first phase the funds will be used in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Thrissur districts, he said.
The cancer centre in Kochi announced in the budget will be established soon, he said. The funds sanctioned by the Centre for setting up tertiary cancer centres in Kochi and Kozhikode – `45 crores each – will be used for the project.Six more Karunya pharmacies will be opened at various district hospitals by February and 13 more by March-April, Sivakumar said.
