District Development Committee (DDC) requested Centre to start the Kanjikode factory work

District Development Committee (DDC) on Saturday urged the Centre to start the Kanjikode rail coach factory work, for which the foundation stone was laid nearly a year back.Railways, which had taken over 231 acres at Kanjikode sanctioned by the State government for the factory, had only started construction of the compound wall.
The meeting, presided over by District Collector P.M. Ali Asgar Pasha, also called upon the Centre to start work on the IIT promised in the district.A resolution moved by C.P. Mohammed, MLA, urged Railways to construct a triangular station at Shoranur so that trains from Thrissur could avoid the delay caused by shunting.
The meeting urged the government to constitute a Bharathapuzha protection authority to save the river from destruction due to sand-mining, encroachments on river bed, and pollution.M. Hamsa, MLA, in another resolution, called upon the government to procure copra to save coconut farmers from the crash in prices of coconut.
