First NIA Police Station in State

Kerala will soon have its first police station for the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA has issued a notification to the Kerala Government for setting up a police station in the state and the proposal is now under the Home Department’s consideration.
According to sources in the Home Department, the NIA had sent the notification for starting a police station which will have jurisdiction in the entire state. The station is likely to come up at Kochi as the NIA court is located here.Kerala would be the first state in south India to have an NIA police station. Maharashtra had given the nod for setting up such a station in Mumbai some months ago and this would be soon operational. For the NIA police station in Kerala, the Home Department would take the consent of the Police Department as the terror cases are first registered with the police and then handed over it to the Central agencies.
