An international conference on local self-governance would be held here next year with the objective of evaluating the present system of decentralization, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. Coordinator of the meeting, S Divakaran Pillai, said that the three-day conference will be held from Jan 13.
Kerala had been credited with implementing decentralization in an effective manner and it was time to evaluate how the state is now standing in comparison with other countries, Pillai said.
Representatives from various countries had approached the state for studying the positive impact of decentralization in different social strata of society, he added.
According to a release, internationally acclaimed experts in the field of decentralization would also be invited for the meet, especially from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
