Kalimannu Cleared By Censor Board and Gets UA tag
25 July 2013
Kalimannu, the film which sparked off a controversy for including actual video footage of the female lead giving birth, was cleared by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Wednesday. The film, by ace director Blessy, gets a U/A certificate, which means audience of all ages are admitted, but it is advised that children below 12 be accompanied by a parent as the theme or content may be considered intense or inappropriate for young children.
Though the regional office of CBFC, which screened the film in Thiruvananthapuram, passed the movie without any cuts in the controversial delivery scenes, it did not issue a clean ‘U’ certificate. It also directed Blessy to omit some dialogues, before it reaches the theatres.
According to the board members there was nothing obscene in the three minute scene where actor Shwetha delivers her baby girl, Sabaina. The committee found that the scene focused on the facial expressions and body language of the actor. However it awarded a ‘U/A certificate’ as some dialogues have a tinge of obscenity. According to the director, the film tells the story about the emotional bond shared by a mother and her fetus during her period of pregnancy, resembling the story of Arjuna’s wife Subhadra and son Abhimanyu in the Mahabharata.
