Kerala Tourism to launch first phase of Spice Route
To increase the numbers of tourist in the state, Kerala Tourism aims to launch the first phase of Spice Route this month.
The initiative to revive and promote the two-millennia-old Spice Route, which links the South Western coast of India to Europe, through tourism has received a boost, with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) pledging support to the venture.
“We are looking at launching the season 2 of Kerala Home of Ayurveda, Kerala Backwaters, Responsible Tourism, and Spice Route in the upcoming fiscal year (April 2015-March 2016). We will also promote ‘Dream Deals’ campaign to boost tourism during off-season. We will conduct roadshows in August and September this year in Tier-II cities.” said by Anupama T V, IAS, Additional Director General, Kerala Tourism.
Kerala Tourism conducts roadshows across 20 cities in India and 13 cities internationally on an annual basis. This year so far, Kerala Tourism has conducted roadshows in eight cities, namely Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Kolkata, and had 56 suppliers from Kerala.
“UK, France, Germany, and USA are the major source markets. Besides focusing on China and Japan, we will aggressively focus on the Middle Eastern markets. Domestically, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are the main source markets due to their proximity to Kerala, because of which we receive a good number of weekend visitors from these states. Maharashtra (particularly Mumbai), Delhi, and Gujarat are major source markets and we share strong partnership with the travel trade from these markets." he added.
