Kerala Urges to ban Gutka Nationwide

Kerala Cheif Minister Oomen Chandy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Sunday saying that step would save millions of children and youth, the country’s most productive resources of the future.“Gutka has been banned in 14 states, including Kerala, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The ban in these places will be effective only if it is banned throughout the country,” Chandy pointed out.
This is the second time the chief minister has requested the prime minister to take an initiative for banning the tobacco product that he feels would send a clear signal of our commitment to public health.Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) Director, Paul Sebastian, is the Vice-Chairman of the coalition, along with directors of 12 RCCs and the heads of Indian Dental Association and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai have also made individual appeals to Manmohan Singh and Federal Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for banning gutkha in all states.
