Kochi will be included in the list of 100 smart cities in the country to be declared by Central Government, said by Urban Affairs Minister Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali.
On Thrusday he was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the GCDA bridge at Manapattiparambu. According to him, the state government had given the names of seven cities from Kerala to the Central government for inclusion in the list of smart cities. Owing to lack of proper planning, the development works conducted in the cities had to be abandoned mid-way.
The minister commended the GCDA for the development works carried out by it in Kochi. By completing development projects in time, the GCDA has become a model for other agencies in the state.
The new bridge near Manapattiparambu was completed in just five months by spending Rs 1.4 crore. The GCDA is also planning to renovate the market near Kaloor Junction adjacent to the Perandoor canal. The GCDA will also look into developing roads on both sides of the canal which will ease traffic on the main roads. Mayor Tony Chammany said that steps would be taken to shift the Kaloor market to the GCDA market near the Perandoor canal which would be renovated in the coming months. GCDA chairman N Venugopal said.
