NH 17 Widening Report Asked by High Court
The Kerala High Court has asked Government Pleader that are processing the project of widening the national highway 17 to give the report about work done.
A Division Bench of the HC, comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon issued the direction on a petition filed by the NH Vikasana Samarakshana Samithi, seeking to issue directive to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to enhance the width of NH 17 and NH 47 to a minimum of 45 metres.
It is alleged in the petition that the projects for widening the National Highways in the state came to a standstill following political intervention. Attempts to acquire land on either sides of the road have been opposed by people residing near the road.
