Nilambur to Be made as Eco-Tourism Destination

The Kerala government is set to develop Nilambur in Malappuram district as an Ecotourism destination,. As part of the initiative, the government has sanctioned Rs 41 crore to prepare a comprehensive master plan for development of all major tourist spots in Nilambur. Aryadan Shoukath, Minicipal Chairman, Nilambur, the plan would be prepared by an internationally-acclaimed agency.
The Ecotourism initiative was inaugurated by Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister, Government of Kerala, in February 2012. The project was planned to link the forest area from Thusharagiri to Perinthalmanna with adjacent tourist spots. However, only a few development works have been carried out after that. “Now, we are planning a multi-crore project as part of the initiative, by linking all tourism centres in the region with a view to attract foreigners as well as visitors from other states,” he said.
The project aims to develop Oli Waterfalls, Adyanpara Waterfalls, Kozhippara Waterfalls, Keralamkundu Waterfalls, DFO Bunglow, Teak Museum, Canoli Plot, Valluvassery Central Nursery, Nadukani Ghat stretch, T K Colony and Poothottam Kadavu. The project also envisions renovating Vadapuram Town Square at a cost of Rs one crore. Viewpoints for tourists would be constructed at Canoli plot. Plans are afoot to renovate 11 rooms of the Woodline Industries situated against the Canoli plot for the use of tourists.
