Low attendance marked the second day of the indefinite strike called by the pro-Left and BJP State employees and teachers organizations, in protest against the State government’s decision to implement contributory pension scheme, on Wednesday.

As per the figures provided by the District Collector’s office, 60.65 per cent of employees in the district attended work on the day. The previous day’s figure was 53 per cent. The KSRTC functioned normally with schedules running as usual. Commuters were apparently relieved with the private bus strike getting over.

Service organizations said the strike had become stronger on the second day, with an increase in the number of offices and schools shutting down.
