Police officers who were on a joint operation of anti piracy raids in Kerala for pirates CD’s and DVD’s were assaulted by Local youths who stiffly resisted the police operation. The raid was held in a communally sensitive coastal locality known for its thriving market in contraband goods here.
They assaulted one officer for recording the “raid” on camera and another for confiscating the pirated material. Officials at the State anti-piracy cell said the images on the “camera prints” they seized were at best hazy and wavering. The State police have roped in a few film processing laboratories, which have special software detectors to read the hidden codes. The “camera prints” were of “good quality” and the police officials were investigating whether they were recorded with the connivance of the exhibitor.
The State police have also issued lookout notice for a set of Keralites settled abroad, some of them students, who raked in lakhs of rupees in foreign exchange annually by illegally distributing pirated versions of latest Malayalam releases online.
