Thiruvananthapuram
Kerala Pilice raided some of the major rice trading centres and godowns across the State on Friday as part of raids to book hoarders and black marketeers. The raids began with an advance party of the police first sealing the premises. They were then followed by officials from the Department of Civil Supplies.
Major marketing centres of Chalai and Vallakkadavu were among the places raided in the State capital. Reports from other centres said that the local police raided the Vazhichery market in Alappuzha district while six premises were raided in Pakakkad district. Five centres were subjected to raids in Malappuram and six in Kasaragod districts while searches in Kozhikode focused on the Valiyangadi trading centre.
Meanwhile, traders say that the rise in prices was due to a markdown in consignments from donor States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
