The Palliyoda Seva Sanghom, which organises the famous Aranmula boat race, has decided not to invite the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha P. J. Kurian and local Member of the Parliament Anto Antony and local Member of Assembly K. Sivadasan Nair to witness the boat race.
The Sanghom, which met on Sunday, took the decision in protest against the support extended by the people’s representatives to the Aranmula airport project. Of more than 80 members in the general body of the Sanghom, only four opposed the motion.
The president of the Sanghom K. V. Sambadevan, who was opposed to excluding Mr. Kurian and others, resigned, noting that the decision was a deviation from the traditional practice of inviting local representative of the people to witness the race.
