Protest By Kerala Students Union Against Capitation Fees
Kerala Students Union (KSU) will be holding the protest against the schools and colleges who collect capitation fee for admissions to Plus-I and degree courses said state president V S Joy.
He told a news conference here that majority of school and college managements were collecting huge amounts as capitation fee for the management quota seats.“Collecting capitation fee is against the directives of the Supreme Court. If such managements continue to collect hefty fees, we will block the admission process from Monday,” Joy said.
He said that KSU had set up a helpline for the students and asked them to contact them in case managements demanded capitation fee.
The Kerala Students Union president said that the government should pressurise the 12 Self-financing Medical College managements to sign an agreement with the government on the fee structure of MBBS courses. Referring to former Defence Minister A K Antony’s statement that people had doubts over Congress party’s commitment to secularism, he said that KSU also had the same feeling and they were supporting Antony’s statement completely.
