River Fish in Kerala Can be Life Threatening

A study conducted by Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB), established in accordance with the provisions of the Biodiversity Act 2002, proved that toxic chemicals in rivers has caused the extinction of many species of fish in the state. The KSBB study carried out in ten rivers of Kerala reveals shocking information in this regard.
Studies reveal that river fish in Kerala is also contaminated with toxic chemicals and prolonged use of it could even cause death. Around 49 species of fish have become extinct in Bharathappuzha while 48 various species have disappeared from Periyar.The discharge of chemicals into the rivers by industries is destroying the natural habitat of fish, says the study.
