Thiruvananthapuram
The state government has released Rs 25 crore more to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to meet the power tariff subsidy extended to a section of consumers from July 2012.
With this, the amount the KSEB has received for insulating a large chunk of consumers using less than 120 units a month, ever since the tariff revision in 2012, has touched Rs 100 crore. According to electricity act, the state was supposed to pay the subsidy amount in advance to the board.
However, the total dues the government owes the board are still above Rs 500 crore. The government was supposed to pay Rs 25 crore every month to KSEB for the subsidy it announced in 2012. As per the second round of subsidy announced in 2013, the government was supposed to release additional Rs 10 crore to the board every month. However, no amount has been released so far.
