Seaplanes Ready To Take Off

Kerala Tourism Seaplanes that were to be started this month are ready to take off and is expected to reach Kochi soon, one of the base stations identified. International airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Mangalore will be the other base stations for the service.
The seaplane is learnt to have been given mandatory clearances by the Customs and the Director General of Civil Aviation, New Delhi. The project aims to connecting 25 tourist destinations. Among prioritised destinations are the Ashtamudi, Punnamada, Vembanad, and Kochi backwaters and Kottappuram. Operations shall be based on zero-subsidy, open sky policy.
Waterdromes, floating jetties and other infrastructure have been set up in the water bodies of Kumarakom, Vembanad, and Bakel. Houseboats will serve as terminals at the landing and takeoff sites with lounges for tourists. Seaplanes will be allowed only to take the aerial route and operations will be limited to daytime.
