Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma Died Today

Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma head of the Travancore Royal Family Died today at private hospital in the city. He was 91 years old and is survived by two children, Padmanabha Varma and Parvati Devi.
The body has been placed at the Levy Hall, situated adjacent to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, for the public to pay homage. The funeral will take place in the premises of Kowdiar Palace at 2.30 pm, palace sources said.
Mr. Varma had stood guard over the age-old traditions, rites and rituals of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, the abode of the family deity, ever since 1991, when by ritual he was anointed as the trustee and dasa of the temple following the death of his elder brother and the last sovereign of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.
