An expert committee appointed by the Coastal Zone Management Authority (CZMA) has found that 29 tourist resorts in Vizhinjam and its immediate environs are operating in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
The four-member committee, which included Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) Director N P Kurien, submitted its report on Tuesday. Of the 29, eight are reportedly in the area designated for the Vizhinjam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) project.
The report will have a direct bearing on the state government’s plea for environmental clearance for the ICTT project which is right now before the expert appraisal committee of the Ministry for Environment and Forests (MoEF).
