The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) has failed to start the construction work of a modern multiplex theatre complex at Mullackal in Alappuzha. The government had set aside Rs 3.5 crore for the preliminary works of the project and it was chief minister Oommen Chandy, who laid the foundation stone for the theatre on July 7, 2012.

During the foundation stone-laying ceremony, the then film minister K B Ganesh Kumar had announced that the construction work of the theatre would completed within 8 months.

On the occasion, he had also promised that KSFDC’s Chithranjali theatre in Cherthala would soon have two digital screens with air conditioned halls. However, KSFDC has not started the construction work on these two projects so far.
