Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurates Coir Kerala 2015

The Fifth edition of Coir Kerala Festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday February first in Allappuzha. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that loan availability for small-scale coir manufacturing units will be simplified. He added that the government will extend all necessary support to modernise the traditional coir sector and equip them to face the competition in the global market.
Inaugurating the five-day Coir Kerala 2015 expo at the EMS Stadium here on Sunday, Mr. Chandy pointed out that the lack of an organised system for husk procurement has become the bane of the coir industry.
The Coir Development Department has submitted certain proposals to overcome the problem. The government, which has had a positive stance in the issue, is willing to accept any proposal that is feasible for implementation, he said.
Mr. Chandy added that Coir Kerala has emerged as a platform for the coir industry to find new markets in the world. The government will adopt the necessary steps to enhance the production of coir fibre so as to meet the increase in demand, necessitated by the growth in volume of coir business.
