National Games 2015 Kerala: ‘PM’ Modi conveys best wishes
The 35th National Games was inaugurated by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Satuarday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes to all the participating athletes in the 35th National Games.
The new stadium in the state capital, which can seat 50,000 people and built at a reported cost of Rs.240 crore, was packed to the rafters for the opening ceremony. However, there was a hitch in the very beginning– in the hoisting of the IOA flag, as the string seemingly got caught in a knot.
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the Goodwill Ambassador of the Games, passed the torch to Kerala’s legendary athletes, PT Usha and Anju Bobby George who lit the lamp, a gigantic nilavilakku. The National Games is supposed to be held every two years, the previous edition was held four years ago in Ranchi, Jharkhand,
