Kochi Metro issues will be shorted out
On Sunday the Chief Minister of Kerala Oomen Chandy said that he expected to sort out issues surrounding the metro rail construction works in Kochi by Monday.
The government is targeting a fast paced solution to the problems. The main issue is that the case related to the quarry units is pending in court, Chandy told to reporters.
On Saturday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is supervising the Kochi metro rail construction had stated that the project won’t be finished by June 2016, as it was decided earlier. The continuous strikes in quarries and Labour Union issues are delaying the project.
The contractors engaged in the metro rail construction had informed DMRC that they were stalling the construction works due to unavailability of stone metals resulted by the strikes in quarries.
No load of stone metals were delivered for the past two weeks. Though the strike in the adjacent district was withdrawn the strike in Ernakulam district is still on.
The contractors efforts to bring the stone metals from neighbouring district are spoiled by quarry unit owners in the district. The contractors have put on hold the works in such circumstances.
