The Cochin Port Employees’ Organisation (CITU) has approached the Kerala State Human Rights Commission seeking intervention in the boat timings implemented by the Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD) last month, which are not helpful to passengers.
In the complaint filed by organisation general secretary C D Nandakumar, it was stated that a number of complaints are being received from commuters of Vypin-Island-Ernakulam boat passengers regarding untimely, premature and unilateral decision of the department that is affecting the scientific and pragmatic system which had prevailed earlier.
Earlier, a boat used to start from Vypin island carrying a huge number of passengers and berth at Embarkation jetty and thereafter go to Ernakulam, he said. However, on August 19, an order was issued that brought about big changes to the system.
