Kerala will approach the Supreme Court to ensure that the state receives its share of water as per the Parambikulam-Aliyar water sharing agreement with Tamil Nadu. Chief minister Oommen Chandy had stated in the Assembly on Tuesday that Tamil Nadu did not respond positively to Kerala’s request to release its due share of water.
According to the government of Kerala, getting its due share under the inter-state agreement has become all the more serious with the state facing a severe drought, and with paddy cultivation in about 20,000 hectares in Palakkad district under the threat of destruction. The decision was taken by the state cabinet which met on Wednesday, a statement from the chief minister’s office said.
