Kottayam
Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (Supplyco) hyper market outlet in Kottayam City was shut down since last Friday. The market used to be great shopping destination for locals.
The regional manager of Supplyco has said that the market has been closed as there is a change at the top of the administration of the market. “The manager of the market was transferred to Kumaranelloor last week. The new manager can take charge only after the auditing of the existing stocks is completed. Till then the market will remain closed,” said the regional manager.
Hundreds of people come to the market without knowing the situation and have to return. Since things including grocery are sold here at a subsidized rate, there is usually a heavy rush during festivals. According to an official of Supplyco, the average sale on an ordinary day is around Rs 3 lakh. During festival season it will be more, he said.
