A special meeting of the Syndicate of Mahatma Gandhi University, which was held here on Saturday, decided to approach the Government to resolve the impasse prevailing over the current year’s admission process to the 14 para-medical courses, including nursing which was de-recognised by the Kerala Nursing Council (KNC) recently.

While the Syndicate has decided to upgrade the facilities in nursing colleges as per the KNC norms, it also decided to revoke its earlier decision to affiliate para-medical course to Kerala University of Health Science (KUHS).

According to the university authorities as many as 14 paramedical courses were being offered in nine centres under its ambit, enabling 1,200 students to join for professional programs.

“The syndicate has decided to submit a representation to government seeking it to permit us to maintain the paramedical courses in MG University. There is no need to affiliate the courses to KUHS,” said Dr A V George.

The special meeting was convened to discuss about the KNC’s decision not to accord sanction for admission of BSc, Post-Basic BSc and MSc nursing students to the eight University Colleges of Nursing, directly run by the MG University until deficiencies are completely and satisfactorily rectified on a permanent and regular basis as per the norms and standards prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council (INC).

It also intended to discuss the Government Order to get all of its medical programmes affiliated to the Kerala University for Medical Sciences during the current year itself.
