Jiji Thomson, the new director-general of Sports Authority of India (SAI), says modalities have been finalised to ensure the entry of more corporates in sports.Thomson, who visited SAI centres in Alappuzha and Kollam besides the prestigious SAI-LNCPE, Kariavattom, which celebrated it’s 38th College Day Celebration on Wednesday, hoped more corporates would follow suit. “Cricket might be swallowing a big chunk of money pouring into sports. But India being a huge country, there are still many big firms who are keen to participate in developing infrastructure in other discipline,” he said.
The SAI chief wanted all 54 national sports federations (NSFs) to appoint chief executive officers. The CEOs’ salaries will be paid by the government like they do it for foreign coaches.Thomson said top priority would be given to recruit more coaches (it is only 1,500 as of now). This is to ensure that an assembly line is created to meet the demands of a rural talent hunt scheme under the Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA).
