Water Cut by Kerala Water Authority
Kerala Water Authority is having hard time since the Rs 210-crore Maradu drinking water project is yet not finished since long time and have been keep on delaying due to one or another reason. They have decided that supply would be reduced to 50 million litres of water per day (MLD).
Objection from residents against the digging up of roads for laying pipelines had delayed the project initially. It took around three years for KWA and district administration to sort out the issue and start the pipe work. Later, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) too raised its objection and delayed the project further.
Now, KWA plans to further curtail the supply to 10MLD and start operations in August. The project was supposed to provide 100 MLD to residents of west Kochi.
The project, once implemented, will draw water from Muvattupuzhayar at Pazhur and treat it at Maradu plant. It is expected to resolve the drinking water woes of Maradu, Kumbalam, Kumbalangi, Chellanam, Edakochi, Fort Kochi, Naval Base, Thevara and port areas.
