Kerala Coastal Police is Facing Manpower Shortage
Kerala has a Coastline of around 580 km, but they are facing a huge manpower shortage in their coastal police. After the 26/11 terrorist attack the coastal security is the major concern for both state and Central Goverments.
Rising manpower shortage in the Coastal police has forced Kerala to knock at the Centre’s door for sanction of a Marine police battalion comprising 1,083 personnel.
The proposal, made by the State Police Chief in November last year, was contemplated at a video conferencing with the Cabinet Secretary on February 2 in which Chief Secretaries, Home officials, and top police officers of all coastal States participated.
“The battalion will have an executive staff of 1,002 personnel and 33 specialists to handle wireless operations, besides medical hands and those in the transport department. It will have 44 persons in ministerial branches,” a top police officer said.
“The battalion could provide for 50 per cent of the human resource requirements of the State’s marine cadre while the remaining will continue to be drawn from the local police,” He added.
