7 Men of UP Arrested and 29 Boats Seized

Valapatnam Police arrested seven migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh and seized 29 boats loaded with illegal sand from Kattampally, Valluvan Kadavu and, Thuruthi Kadavus on the banks of Valapatnam river in the early hours of today.Police also seized 29 boats laden wtih sand. A total of 33 boats were seized but four of them were sank by the labourers when police followed them.
The seized sand would be distributed through Kalavara, a government agency, to distribute the sand.
The sand mafia were engaging migrant workers for illegal mining of sand due to shortage of local workforce. Meanwhile, police also seized three loads of sand dumped at Chokli- Padanakkara late last night, police said.
