As part of its sesquicentenary celebrations, the State of Bank of India (SBI)’s Kozhikode branch will take up a massive blood donation awareness campaign named ‘SBI safe blood initiative’ in Kozhikode with the support of various educational institutions.

The campaign will witness voluntary blood donation of 150 select persons during its formal launch at the Providence Women’s College here on October 23.

“By the end of January 2014, one thousand donors, including 500 women, will join us for donating blood in the campaign. Altogether, 20 blood-donation camps will be arranged in connection with the campaign,” said Antonio Jose D’souza, SBI General Manager, while addressing a press conference here on Saturday. The bank would offer 150 accounts with a deposit of Rs.1,000 each, to select students from the weaker sections of society, he said.

The year-long celebrations, which began on October 20, 2012, would culminate on October 15. SBI Chief General Manager M. Sreenatha Sastry would open the valedictory function. It would mark the unveiling of the sesquicentennial logo and the ‘Kalapravam’ sculpture by K.S. Radhakrishnan at Mananchira Square. As many as 150 saplings too would be planted in the city.

On Saturday, the bank hosted an exclusive exhibition on the evolution of banking in India on the branch office premises. The exhibits were mainly old documents and information gathered from the archives of the bank in Kolkata.
