Kerala Govt. Launches ‘Operation Suraksha’
On Wednesday the Kerala government said it has initiated a new programme ‘Operation Sureksha’ aimed at curbing the activities of anti-social elements, goons and mafia groups operating in the state.
According to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala several raids were conducted in different parts of the state since the launch of the programme on Tuesday. in the last 48 hours, 1,769 persons have been arrested from different parts of Kerala under various criminal provisions, he said. 704 criminals from Thiruvananthapuram range, 480 from Kochi range, 330 from Thrissur range and 255 from Kannur range have been nabbed so far.
If one wants to report activities of goondas to the police, they can dial 1090, the crime stopper number. The caller need not give his/her details. The police will accept the complaint and take required action.
Chennithala also said that “Crimes against women and children will be given priority,” Additional Director General of Police Arunkumar Sinha has been appointed state-level coordinator to monitor the progress of the programme, he added.
