Kerala Railway: Additional Rs 200 Crore Granted for Projects
For the second consecutive year the state has been granted an additional amount of Rs 200 crore for railway projects as a recognition for utilizing all the money allocated in the railway budget.
The state had earlier failed to utilize the full amount allocated in the railway budget, and as a result the funds were diverted to projects in Tamil Nadu.
The allocated funds would be used to complete these projects – Angamali-Sabari track (Rs 3 crore); Punalur-Chenkotta guage transfer (Rs 30 crore); Pollachi-Palakkad, Pollachi-Coimbatore guage transfer (Rs 73 crore),
doubling of tracks: Mulanthuruthy-Kuruppunthara (17 crore), Chengannur-Chingavanam (Rs 39 crore), Chingavanam-Kuruppunthara (Rs 22 crore), Haripad-Ambalapuzha (Rs 15 crore); Kochuveli terminal second phase development, and one pit line and 2 stabling lines for Ernakulam marshalling yard (Rs 1 crore).
The Officials of Kerala are confident that the additional grant would add an impetus to the various Railway projects in Kerala.
